Movement Making

Energized by a vision for change, informed by a wealth of neighbourhood knowledge, and supported by a culture of innovation, we amplify social change and build a more resilient Neighbourhood House Movement. Every person in the neighbourhood house family has a place in movement making.

1

Increased Awareness

Working strategically across our neighbourhood houses and networks creates increased neighbourhood house awareness and influence. Increased visibility creates
resilience and impact.

2

Learning and Evolution

Supporting shared learning across our organization fosters the exchange of knowledge, experiences and wise practices to strengthen our capacity for change.

3

Collaborative Social Change

Working alongside our communities and networks, we strategically leverage each other’s strengths, capacities and resources. This will focus our advocacy efforts for greater impact, making our collective voice heard, and leans into our value of co-liberation.

01 ANHBC Movement Making

Our movement making begins within our own organization by creating an ANHBC-wide working group to further develop the Movement Making Framework which is in its initial stages.

Movement Making Framework

The working group will further design and refine the process, and give guidance on resourcing and support for staff participation in collaborative work across the organization. The group will be informed by the engagement outcomes and address questions that arose in that process.

02 Provincial Neighbourhood
House Movement

We will continue to work with our peers and partners across the Provincial Neighbourhood House Movement towards some key goals:

Share & Learn

The desire to share experiences and to learn from each other through that sharing

Raising Awareness

Raising awareness of the neighbourhood house sector, including government decision makers – In the case of government, there is an appetite to develop a simple engagement plan collectively that builds from awareness and into resilience-building support.

Systemic Change

The desire to work closely on policy
advocacy for the purposes of systems change.

Our transformation journey is a living, dynamic process that will continually evolve with time, experience, learning and circumstance.

Our Strategic Framework embodies this, acknowledging the continuous path of growth, adaptation and renewal.

To ensure that strategic transformation is a living reality, we will:

Taking these steps, we will create an organizational environment where the Living Process of Transformation becomes ingrained in our culture and operations, driving relevant and sustained change.

The journey of collective Strategic Transformation across ANHBC began in the spring and summer months of 2021, and there are many people to thank and recognize who stewarded this unconventional path.

Beginning with Ta7talíya Nahanee and Chris Corrigan who called on us to do things differently, and approach the work through the lens of transformation. With them we found a path forward that fed our values and intentions in ways that exceeded our imaginations.

The Core Transformation Team who bravely came together at the beginning for this work, approached and upheld the process with the highest regard and rippled the work of transformation and decolonizing out into their neighbourhood houses, teams and communities.

The Strategic Planning Committee who led, guided and stewarded the process developing a new strategic plan. Together they supported each other to do things differently and approach transformation in a non-linear way. They listened deeply to the voices that emerged since 2021, and ensured that what was heard guided the work.

To those who brought the Strategic Framework to life through art, design and writing.

To the entire ANHBC Collective – the teams, volunteers, participants, board members, neighbours and many Indigenous teachers who courageously and openly participated in our many engagement sessions and conversations. Your words, drawings and sticky-notes have and will continue to guide our collective transformation.
